The geometry of the XG is based on the same theory as the earlier arm, and is optimised for LP records. That arm explored some of the principles which are put into effect in the XG, which is an abreviation for Export Gold. The RP1-XG tonearm evolved from an earlier design which was in production from 1981. However, there are many detail variations within the basic types and these are important in achieving the desired design objectives. Consequently there are new factors which are considered to be of major importance while previous design targets are now less desirable.Īlthough there would appear to be an enormous number of varying tonearm designs, in actuality there are not really so many, and for each general category, the majority are derived from a common ancestor.

One unique characteristic of these designs is the achievement of near frictionless movement horizontally and vertically whilst having no measurable free play in the bearing assemblies (and in reality one or two microns of pre load). The main consideration in designing tonearms has changed in the last decade due to various factors such as the influence of turntable design and the resurgence of moving coil low compliance cartridges.

The design increases connectivity and ensures the signal path is kept as clean as possible. This has only two parts to minimise joints and incorporates a twist and clamp design locking the plug to the terminal. Which uses an advanced phono plug assembly. This advanced design tube increases the stiffness and rigidity of the overall assembly using CAD design to blend the multiple varying tapers.Įxternally we have fitted a bespoke Rega designed low capacitance phono cable.

Completely redesigned to redistribute mass, further reduce stresses and resonances. A brand new low mass precision engineered vertical bearing assembly has been manufactured to further complement the inherent design philosophy of the RP8 turntable.
